Statement

Shortly before 5 p.m. on May 7, 2020, five assailants attempted to rob Korman Fine Jewelry located at 5011 Burnet Road. These individuals, since identified as Houston residents, smashed a jewelry case inside the store and fled with the stolen merchandise. The on-site security guard sustained an injury and was transported to the hospital. He is currently in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery. Although a few customers were in the store, none were harmed or threatened during the robbery.

Korman Fine Jewelry wants to acknowledge the courageous actions of Smith Security Services and the Austin Police Department, Travis County Emergency Medical Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Smith security guard bravely protected the customers and employees of the store while the Austin Police Department’s swift response – which included arriving on the scene within moments after the incident and ensuing comprehensive search with air and canine support – helped capture three of the suspects. We would also like to thank the residents of the Brentwood Neighborhood for assisting in the search by alerting the Austin Police Department of suspicious persons. These combined efforts helped to ensure that the assailants, who remain in custody, will be brought to justice.
